(no avatar) You are not falling below, you are helping yourself, only time that the 30-06 is better is you need a heavy 200gr. bullet

Splittinhairs I use a 30.06 with 220 grain on yogi, one shot in the shoulder and its bear burger.

(no avatar) My .270 with the Hornady 140 gr Light Mag will do the same. Never did like the 30-06. A lot of guys around here do, but we have quite a few that love the .270.I guess it is up to the operator....John

(no avatar) The big difference is in the recoil

17 ft.lbs,on the 270 verses 22 ft.lbs on the 30-06,Then the 270 is faster and shoots flatter

It all goes back to do you want a slower heavy bullet os a lighter faster, and flatter shooting,Of coarse neither will do the job if you can't do yours,

Splittinhairs So Joe, your sayin he who shoots a 270 is a pussy and he who shoots a 30.06 is a man, LOL.

(no avatar) NO NO I say that no one needs to feel the pain of recoil,Of coarse I have a 300 WIN, Mag./a VISA muzzle break that feels more like a 243,I have no need to shoot my 30-06,but if I was going to then it would have a Browing Boss Berak on it so that I could also get the balancer

Recoil is what cause flinching that will open your group

A good way to test recoil is put the gun against your nose and shoot it 3 times,If that dosn't bother you then you can handlel the recoil of that gun

(no avatar) jcg,s why don,t you 270 men compare the 270 and 30.06 with the same weight bullet ? if the rifles weight the same and you shoot the same weight bullet at the same volicity i don,t think you could tell the differance in recoil. try a 150 gr .270 with 57.5 H 4831SC for 2800fps or 54grs win.760 with a 130gr bullet 3008 fps in a 8 pound rifle, then try 59grs imr 4350 with a 150 gr bullet for 2800fps in the 30.06 or 55grs bl-c(2)with a 130 gr bullet for 3060fps in the 30.06 .i would bet if you were blind folded and handed two rifles to shoot of the same weight (say rem. 700,s) you could not tell the differance in recoil. at 500 yds with a 100yds zero the 270 drops 54.2. with the 150gr bullet the 30.06 drops 56.6 with the 150gr bullet, at the same distance and that it with the best ballistic coefficient for both bullets (boat tail, spire point) so the 270 will drop 2.4 inches less than the 30.06 at 500 yds. i don,t know about you but i could never tell the differance. as you can see i didn,t compare apples to oranges. source of info was speers reloading manual number 13. eastbank.

Splittinhairs Eastbank- what is the energy of each bullet at 500 yds, which one hits harder?

(no avatar) eastbank...You sound like a dobble fool

#1 the twist in a Remington 270 isn't for 150 gr. bullets

#2 only a fool would shoot at a DEER @ 500 yds.

Try holding @ 200 yds. and using 130 gr. bullets,I use Jack O'Connor load witch is 49.5 grs. IMR 4064,With 130 gr, SIRRA BT. bullets,It will shoot 1/4" 5 shot groups @ 100 yds. in my Custom 270,I have yet to see a 30-06 do that
