Thread Title: "A snake story"
(no avatar) It was a hot evening on Feb. 24th, 2004 . A friend and I were Quail hunting in south Texas. One of my pointers got real birdy and came to a point about 50 yards ahead of us, As we walked up to the dog on point I noticed that his tail was moveing slightly back and forth. I told my buddy that the dog may not be on birds' because he always pointed with a high stiff tail. About that time the dog laid his ears back and looked back at me. This is a 7 year old experienced dog that I had raised from a pup and had never seen him do this. We both heard the snake rattle at the same time. Then two more snakes , one to the side and one about 10 feet behind us answered with rattleing. All of a sudden the dog jumped straight up and back towards us as the biggest rattle snake I have ever seen struck at him. My friend shot the snake with a mod. 12 ,16 ga. I spotted the other two snakes and killed both of them. The smallest snake had 12 rattles and measured 5'5" long. The largest had some rattles broke off but had 15 rattles and measured 7'3" I have been in the outfitting business in Texas for 35 years and have run onto many snakes and that was the biggest one ever. Needless to say we kept our eyes peeled on the ground the rest of the day. Oh yes the snake missed ol Gus! www.lospatos.net

GMT rattel snakes don't scare me as much as the big old black or dark green water moccasins you Texans have in the South Texas. GMT
