Here is an excellent example of an ALLEN & THURBER, 5 shot, pepperbox pistol made in WORCESTER, MASS. This is a POCKET SIZE model and is a 5 shot double action model. This one has a fluted barrel with markings in the flutes as shown. This model also has the "bag style" walnut grips that retain nearly all of teh original finish. The frame is tastefully engraved with the usual scrolls and no engraving on the nipple shield. This is a double action model and the bar hammer is marked "ALLEN'S PATENT 1845" The action operates fine and the nipples are all in fine shape. The barrel retains about 90% original blue. All markings are sharp and clear. These guns were favoites of the gold miners during the 1849 California gold ruch. See FLAYDERMAN, page 59 for more details. This is an ANTIQUE, NO FFL is needed.
