Gun: This is a Forehand Arms Co. double action, top break .38 S & W revolver with a 3 ¼ inch barrel. The serial no. is A3808. After Wadsworth died in 1890 Forehand continued the company as Forehand Arms Co. until it was bought by Hopkins and Allen in 1902. The gun is a five shot top break model with external hammer. The barrel is marked “Forehand Arms Co. Worcester Mass. U.S.A. Patent Dec ’86 and Jan ’87”. The grips are marked “H & A”. The action functions well, the hammer cocks and holds, the trigger drops the hammer. The cylinder spins as designed when the hammer is at rest, but the lock up is tight when the hammer falls. The top break action functions well and the spring is strong. This is a C & R gun.
Condition: The bore is good with good rifling, there is some erosion in the grooves. There is much original blue left but the cylinder and barrel are both mottled and discolored. The finish throughout the pistol is smooth. The grips show some wear but are intact with no chips. This is a good pocket pistol for Cowboy Action Shooting side matches.
