Up for auction is a Double Barrel, Rabbit ear Hammer, Shotgun. It is a 12 gauge and made in the 1870 to 1880 period. The gun is in excellent working condition. I have shot it my self with low brass shells, but It should only be fired with black powder shells if shot a lot. Both Hammers lock back and fire and are the same hammers on both side. They match ! There are no splits or breaks in the shotgun at all except for the tip of the wood forearm, just below the forearms take down latch. There is also a chunk missing from the heel of the old plastic butt plate . I do have a butt plate that I can let go with the shotgun but I didn't want to remove the one on it because there is a dog scene on it and the Russel Arms name. The shotgun is tight for it's age. I would not hesitate to hunt with this gun custom loaded with black powder or pyrodex shells. It will make a very nice Cowboy Action Shooting Gun that is authentic and not a reproduction. I think the barrel is made of Damascus or twisted steel but I could not see it on the barrels. These old guns usually had these type barrels and are not safe to shoot with regular high brass or high powered shells. No FFL is needed for this old shotgun but I must have a signed statement saying that the buyer is 21 years old. I can ship directly to the buyer. Reserve is only $165.00.
