Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Springfield Armory (Springfield, Mass) -- 1894 30-40 KRAG

This is a 1894 US Springfield Armory 30-40 Krag. I don't know a lot about these guns, but for its age looks to be in good shape. It looks like there have been a few modifications and needs an original butt plate. Thanks for looking.

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  Can it fire live rounds? Do all the serial numbers(barrel, action etc. . .) match? What kind of modifications? Thanks, Andristan 05/12/2010
A:  I have never shot the gun. Everything is functional so I don't see why it wouldn't fire. I could only find one serial # on the receiver. The butt stock plate is missing and I am not sure if the rear sight is original. Thanks 05/12/2010

Q:  Hello, I've never heard of one of these. But after some quick research. The 30-40 Krag is the first of it's kind a cartridge that uses smokeless powder. It would also be pretty close to a 308 because it's a 7.62mm, it was the US Army's replacement of the 45-70, and with that being compaired to the 30-40 it was considered to be a small bore rifle. US Army took it to trails in 1892. I'd say it would be a great gun for deer. In 1899, the .30-40 was used to shoot the world-record Rocky Mountain elk. The record stood until the latter half of the 20th century. Just some free info hope it helps you with the gun. Have a nice day. 06/25/2010
