For sale is a FN Model 1949 ABL rifle in .30-06 caliber. C&R is OK. This rifle is stamped with the Columbian National Emblem. This .30-06 rifle is a gas operated, 10 shot box magazine assault rifle. It has a threaded muzzle that is protected by a muzzle cover that can be unscrewed. The rifle is in excellent condition with plenty of rifling in the barrel. It appears to have been professionally refinished. The finish on the rifle is black paint and is about 95%. The stock is in great shape although as I look at it, it appears to be a replacement. The butt plate is a little big for the stock indicating that it might have been sanded. Also, there is wood knot at the butt plate which leaves a void at that point (see picture). The magazine has a small area that looks like it was pitted, but the rust has been removed and it was painted over. There is plenty of rifling in the barrel and there is no pitting or rust. The rifle looks new although it is not. Some other things to consider: The receiver cover (with the sights) looks like it has seen some use. The receiver cover has serial number 46529 while the serial number of the rifle is 0799. The bolt carrier is serial number 0799. The metal finish is different on all 3 of these components. Therefore, it is possible that the balance of the rifle has the original finish (in which case, it is really a nice rifle), or it is possible that the rifle has been refinished (if that is the case, it is an excellent job of refinishing). The stock is most likely a replacement although, except for the knot at the butt, it is in really nice shape. Looking at this rifle, it appears almost new. If you can live with a rifle in great shape that looks new while being aware of the things I stated above, you should consider buying this rifle. However, if you are looking for a rifle that you want to be original in all aspects with no doubts as to its history, then you should consider this rifle. FN Model 1949 rifles are great rifles and are fun to shoot. This is a piece of history that you can enjoy and shoot. If you have any questions, e-mail them to me at Stuart@SHL-National.com.
