IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL 386-749-4104. +++++ANTIQUE, SO NO FFL REQUIRED!+++++ EVANS REPEATING FIREARMS CO. NEW MODEL CARBINE WITH 22" ROUND BARREL, SHOTGUN BUTTPLATE AND 28 ROUND CAPACITY HELICAL MAGAZINE IN BUTTSTOCK, IN THE PROPRIETARY .44 NEW MODEL EVANS CARTRIDGE. (CASE LENGTH 1.5") NRA ANTIQUE "VERY GOOD" CONDITION. CURRENTLY A SIMILAR EVANS CARBINE IN MUCH LOWER CONDITION IS OFFERED AT RETAIL ON AN ANTIQUE FIREARMS DEALERS' WEBSITE AT $2,100.00. MINE IS IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION AT A MUCH LOWER PRICE. EACH CARTRIDGE IS LOADED THROUGH A TUBE IN THE BUTTSTOCK AND THE ACTION IS WORKED TO ADVANCE THE CARTRIDGE FORWARD USING AN ARCHIMEDEAN SCREW TYPE PRINCIPLE. WITH A LOADED 28 ROUND MAGAZINE, THIS RIFLE WAS THE "ASSAULT RIFLE" OF ITS' TIME. A NEW MODEL EVANS CARBINE CARRIED BY CAPTAIN COOPER (SASS # 43639) IS PICTURED IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER ON PAGE 32 OF THE SEPTEMBER 2008 EDITION OF "THE COWBOY CHRONICLE: THE MONTHLY JOURNAL OF THE SINGLE ACTION SHOOTING SOCIETY". ONE OF THESE ORIGINAL EVANS CARBINES IS SHOWN IN USE BY WILFORD BRIMLEYS' CHARACTER IN THE TOM SELLECK MOVIE, "CROSSFIRE TRAIL". THIS SAME HELICAL MAGAZINE DESIGN WAS FOUND ON THE CALICO RIFLE AND PISTOL AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET A FEW YEARS AGO, SO THE EVANS RIFLE TRULY WAS A GUN AHEAD OF ITS' TIME! EVERYTHING FUNCTIONS AS IT SHOULD. THE BORE IS IN GOOD OVERALL CONDITION, HAVING STRONG RIFLING AND WITH SOME LIGHT PITTING HERE AND THERE. THE BORE DIAMETER IS .429". STAMPED ON TOP OF THE BARREL IN FRONT OF THE REAR SIGHT IS ALL OF THE EVANS PATENT DATE INFORMATION. BOTH THE FOLDING LADDER FRONT AND REAR SIGHTS ARE ORIGINAL TO THE RIFLE. EVANS "NEW MODEL" CARBINES WERE NOT SERIAL NUMBERED, AS EARLIER PRODUCTION MODELS HAD BEEN. ANY NUMBER FOUND ON A "NEW MODEL" CARBINE IS AN ASSEMBLY NUMBER. THERE IS ABOUT 10% ORIGINAL BLUE FINISH OVERALL, WITH SOME LIGHT PITTING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RECEIVER, AND WITH ONLY A FEW SMALL SCRATCHES HERE AND THERE. THE ORIGINAL WOOD BUTTSTOCKS AND FOREARM ARE IN VERY GOOD OVERALL CONDITION, WITH ONLY A FEW MODERATE DINGS AND SCRATCHES. BOTH SLING SWIVELS ARE INTACT ON THE FOREARM AND BOTTOM BUTTSTOCK AND FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ABOUT EVANS RIFLES CAN BE FOUND IN THE BOOK "MAINE MADE GUNS AND THEIR MAKERS" BY DWIGHT B. DEMERITT, JR. CHAPTER IX (PAGES 123-152) IS DEDICATED TO THESE FINE RIFLES, WITH A GREAT DEAL OF HISTORICAL AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THEM. EVANS RIFLES WERE ACTUALLY PRODUCED IN MECHANIC FALLS, ME, BETWEEN 1871 AND 1879, WHEN THE COMPANY WENT BANKRUPT. DURING THEIR PRODUCTION RUN IN THE MID 1870s, SHOOTING EXHIBITIONS IN MAINE WERE GIVEN BY KIT CARSON, JR., A NOTED MARKSMAN OF THE TIME, AND SON OF THE FAMOUS SCOUT AND INDIAN FIGHTER, KIT CARSON. NO ONE KNOWS JUST HOW MANY EVANS RIFLES WERE ACTUALLY MADE DURING THAT TIME, BUT IT IS BELIEVED TO BE A SMALL NUMBER, USUALLY CONSIDERED TO BE ABOUT 12,000 IN OVERALL NUMBER PRODUCED. THESE UNIQUE RIFLES ARE FINALLY BEGINNING TO BE CONSIDERED AS A RARE COLLECTIBLE FIREARM, A STATUS WHICH THEY RICHLY DESERVE. THIS VERY HARD TO FIND EVANS CARBINE SHOULD BE OF INTEREST TO ANY COLLECTOR OF EARLY LEVER ACTION FIREARMS. $40.00 S&H AND INSURANCE. BANK CHECK OR POSTAL MONEY ORDER. PAYMENT DUE WITHIN SEVEN(7) CALENDAR DAYS OF END OF AUCTION. SHIPS DIRECT TO YOU UNLESS YOU LIVE IN A STATE WITH ADDITIONAL ANTIQUE FIREARM RESTRICTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS. IF SO, EXTRA COSTS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT DUE. IT IS UP TO YOU TO KNOW AND OBEY THE LAWS OF YOUR STATE.
