You're looking at a Crosman Model 140, which is a single-shot .22 caliber pneumatic pump pellet rifle. This rifle appears to be the second variant of the Model 140 with a spoon handle breech cover, aluminum breech and auto recocking. The second variant was manufactured in Fairport N.Y. between 1955 and 1957.
This air rifle has a 19-3/4" rifled barrel with a fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight. The gun is finished blue with an uncheckered walnut stock. Blue is 85-90% with some surface rust and a few very small spots of pitting on the barrel and pneumatic tube, otherwise the metal is in good condition for its age (see photos).
The walnut stock is in good condition with just a few nicks in the bottom of the stock and some light scratches in the sides of the stock. There's also some wear below the surface of the finish at the toe on the right-side of the stock (see photos). The finish on the butt-end of the stock is also worn. Someone drilled two holes in top of the stock, just behind the breech where it appears that a peep sight was mounted, otherwise as mentioned the stock is in good condition (see photos).
We did not test-fire this air rifle, however the when pumping the rifle it has good compression and produces a strong report. In their day, these classic Crosman rifles were powerful enough to be used for hunting pests and small game. Oil-up the seals and take this one to the field for some fun!
