Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - O. F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. -- Model 195 - 12 Ga. Bolt-Action Shotgun

Watchers! Be sure to check out my other auctions! Something for everyone!

For sale is a Mossberg Model 195 Bolt-Action Shotgun! The Model 195 is a 3-Shot, 12 gauge only (2 3/4-inch) bolt-action shotgun, with a 2 shell detachable magazine. The barrel measures 26" and is vented. It also utilizes the variable C-Lect-Choke; you can set it to Full, Modified, or Improved Cylinder (see 3rd photo) [Note: steel shot is not recommended with this choke]. The action was mounted in a genuine walnut, Monte Carlo stock with rubber recoil pad. Weight comes in at 7 1/2 lbs. This model was introduced in 1954 and discontinued in 1955, and so not only is it C&R eligible, but it may be a collector, given the few number made!

Overall condition is Fine to Very Fine. The metal retains almost all the original bluing, not bad for a 54-year-old gun! You'll see the most wear on the back of the bolt when you cycle it.

Despite the overall good looks of the shotgun, there are two problems that detract from its overall condition. The first is a crack in the stock running along the left side (see 2nd photo). It has been glued, but it could probably use a bit more reinforcement. I recommend obtaining some 1/16th" brass plate stock and making some embellished plates that are inlaid in both sides of the stock. Not only will this reinforce the stock, it will also give it a custom look! Some nice scrollwork, and possibly some engraving, and those brass plates would really make it stand out! The other issue is the trigger guard. The plastic guard has shrunk over time (see last photo). I would suggest finding a new guard that can be modified to fit, or you could remove the bottom screw, place a new screw just behind the trigger to pull it into the stock, then set the bottom screw in a new hole. I'm not happy with that choice, as it would leave a gap, so I would try to find another guard that I could customize for a better fit. If you thought about the brass plates to reinforce the stock, why not consider a brass trigger guard as well?

This is a very nice shotgun, and has some nice features! The vented barrel and adjustable choke allow you to match the shotgun to the load, for the best possible shot. Despite the two problems I described, this is still a nice, collectible model, given the short production period.
