Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Izhevsk Tokarev SVT-40 -- Izhevsk Collector Tokarev SVT-40 1941 Non Import

The rifle for action is a Tokarev SVT-40 7.62 X 54r that is in perfect working order. The arsenal that manufactured this rifle in 1941 was the Izhevsk Arsenal. This rifle has the SA stamp as was rearsenaled. The rifle is not an import and HAS the scope rails on it.The barrel is dark with a smooth bore, has strong lands and rifling. The stock is the thicker AVT stock.THERE ARE NO ELECTRO-PENCILED SERIAL NUMBERS, ALL STAMPED. The serial numbers are non matching as with all SA rearsenals. I purchased this rifle 2 years ago, disassembled it, thoroughly cleaned it and reassembled it. The bluing is approximately 95%. The stock has one arsenal repair which is very strong. I fired 20 rounds of surplus 7N1 Russian Sniper Ammo and adjusted the gas cartridge to a 1.3 which allowed perfect ejection of spent casings. If you use other ammo you will need to readjust the gas cartridge. The Stock is in exceptionally good condtion. Looks like it was never reissued and stored. SVT is the abbreviation for Samozaryadnaya Vitovka Tokarev Semiautomatic Rifle... AVT is for the automatic rifle. During WWII, the Cold War, and the Cold War Extension the SVT was the standard Rifle of the Soviet Russian Military Forces. It was also the favorite of the enemy forces of the Russian Military. The Finnish were the biggest collector and refurbisher of the SVT-40 as you will see many imports, bring backs and non-imports that have the SA mark on the side of the receiver. The three arsenals that manufactured the SVT-40 were the Tula Arsenal, The Izhevsk Arsenal and the Kovrov Arsenal. The Tula factory produced 60% of the SVT-40 and performed the majority of the rearsenals of the SVT-40. The Izhevsk Arsenal produced approximately 30% of the SVT-40 Arsenal. It is estimated that the Kovrov Arsenal only produced and estimated 10% of this weapon. From my experience the Izhevsk and Kovrov are the most accurate and the hardest to fined in Collectors Grade Conditions with the Kovrov being the most rare and most accurate. IF you find an SVT-40 that has been professional reconditioned, you will have an absolute perfect collector weapon the will fire perfectly. The biggest issue with the SVT 40 is the ejection of the spent casing due to improper gas cartridge adjustment and improper powder loads. DO NOT use any loads over 150 grain as this will destroy the gas chamber. The rifle for action is a Tokarev SVT-40 that is in perfect working order. The arsenal that manufactured this rifle in 1941 was the Izhevsk Arsenal. This rifle was a Finnish capture and rearsenal. The rifle is not an import and does have the scope rails on it. The serial numbers are not matching as all Finnish captures. I purchased this rifle 2 years ago, disassembled it, thoroughly cleaned it and reassembled it. The bluing is approximately 90%. The Stock was received in the condition it is in. From my experience it seems to have been refinished as one point. I did not refinish the stock. The matching shellac for this finish is a Ruby unwaxed shellac. The reserve for this auction is 899.95

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  Hello, "Bore is dark & shiny". I don't understand, can you tell me if the bore is frosted, pitted, sharp rifling, rounded rifling, etc...? Has it been counterbored? Is the gas piston and gas tub pitted? Is the stock finished with shellac? It looks very smooth as if it were sanded and polyurethane was applied. Kinda hard to tell all this from just photos. Thanks, DG 12/02/2009
A:  The rifling is sharp and well defined, no pitting, no frosting. As far as I can tell, it was no counterbored or crosshashed. The gas piston and gas tub is slightly pitted but in excellant condition for the age. The stock has a shellac finish. This is the way I recieved the rifle, I took it a part made sure all part were in working condition, put it back together and took it to the range. The piston is set at 1.3 for using Russian surplus 150g rounds. the ejection works perfectly at this setting. The finish does not look to be an original refurbished finish. 12/03/2009

Q:  Is the bolt matching or electro-pencil SN? 12/04/2009
A:  Like most SA stamped SVT-40 tokarevs, their are no matching numbers. The bolt is stamped and not electro penciled. There are no electro-penciled parts on this rifle. All are stamped. Very rare for a Finnish rearsenal. Only the mag is electro penciled. 12/04/2009
