Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - English Military Firearms -- Original Civil War 1861 Enfield Tower Musket 3Band

Original Civil War 1861 Enfield Tower Musket 3 Band. Here is an original Civil War era 1861 Tower Enfield 3 band musket in very good to excellent condition. This musket measures 55 3/4 inches from tip of the barrel to butt plate. The right side plate is marked with "(English crown proof mark)/1861/Tower". Along the left side of the barrel are 5 proof or acceptance marks and they read from closest to the lock foreward as "(sheaf of wheat symbol?), 25, (crossed pole arms?),25, (crossed pole arms)". This musket has excellent original one piece wood from bore to butt plate, the side plate is excellent with clear markings, and it has the original ramrod. The barrel has some pitting around the nipple. This 148 year old musket is probably still capable of firing a black powder charge but the buyer should have it tested by a licensed gunsmith. Please see photographs for more details and ask all questions prior to placing bids. Thanks!

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  what is the condition of the bore thanks 07/30/2009
A:  Hi, The bore is dark, similar to the plum blue color on the outside. There were signs of a fine powder or dust rust but no evidence of pitting. Thanks and good luck! Jeff (militarycollector) 08/01/2009
