NO RESERVE!! Here's a rare one that would certainly fall into the "oddball" category. This is a Dardick Model 1500. These were manufactured in very limited numbers in the late 1950's and very early 1960's. This is serial number 1052 (the serial numbers started at 1000) and it is estimated that fewer than 200 were ever manufactured. What makes this rare handgun unique is not only the method of operation, but the type of ammunition it uses as well. I guess it can be sort of described as a "semi-automatic revolver". It uses a unique plastic cased triangular cartridge called a "tround". The heart of the gun is a rotating cylinder with three triangular recesses cut into its' perimeter. There is a spring loaded magazine in the grip of the pistol that holds up to 15 trounds. When the trigger is pulled, the cylinder rotates and picks up a tround from the magazine, then rotates to alignment with the barrel where it is discharged, and then finally past an ejection port where the spent tround simply falls out. There is no "chamber" in the normal sense as the plastic case of the tround is only supported on two sides. The plastic case itself contains the pressure of the exploding cartridge. It is chambered for the equivalent of the .38 Special and, with adapter trounds, .22 Long Rifle can be fired with the help of the spare .22 caliber barrel. Operating system aside, one thing is for sure, this is one homely looking piece of ordnance!
This example is in cosmetically excellent condition with about 98% original finish remaining. It seems to function OK most of the time however there is a hitch in the trigger mechanism somewhere and the cylinder does not always rotate smoothly. Also, there is some mechanical issue with the loading port cover. When the release latch is pushed down, the cover will only open about half way. There is a projection on the inside of the lever that is hanging up on the magazine follower. By reaching in with a pinky finger or small tool and depressing the follower, the loading port cover is freed up to open fully. These might be easily repaired issues and it appears that Numerich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) has many parts on hand as they bought out Dardick's inventory many years ago. Dardick Parts The bores in both the .38 and .22 caliber barrels are excellent. Comes with an original box, with both barrels, one spent tround case, and the original fold out brochure. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping. Although it should be listed as a C&R, I cannot find any mention of the Dardick pistols on ATF's Curio & Relics list.
