This is a Spanish Fabrica De Armas Oviedo Mauser Model 1893, which was manufactured in 1927. There are no import stamps on the barrel This bolt-action rifle is chambered in the 7x57mm cartridge. The gun does not close on a "Field" gauge, which indicates that the head space is out of specification, but not excessive. The serial number on the receiver is 2V435. The serial number stamped on the rest of the parts (bolt, bolt shroud, floorplate, etc.) does not match the serial number stamped on the left-side of the receiver. The receiver ring is stamped with the national crest and "FABRICA DE ARMAS" with "OVIEDO 1927" (see photos).
The rifle has a 29" barrel. The bore is dark and pitted, but still retains decent rifling. The action is smooth and the bolt locks-up tight. Blue on the gun is about 80-90% with some surface rust in a few spots on the barrel and bayonet lug (see photos). There's also a few small spots of rust on the receiver. The steel buttplate has the heaviest rust with some of the spots being pitted (see photos). Except for the buttplate, all the rust spots are light and mostly on the surface (see photos).
The gun has it's original military wood stock and hand guard. There is a number stamped on the left-side of the stock, below the receiver, otherwise there are no cartouches on the stock (see photos). There are some dings and divots in the stock in various places, typical of a military-type gun. Some of the divots and scratches are a bit deep, but none are too bad. There is one very small, hairline crack in the bottom of the stock at the toe, otherwise there are no other cracks in the stock or hand guard. As mentioned, the original buttplate is present on the stock. The buttplate has some rust pitting, but otherwise is in decent condition.
The rifle has it's original standard military sights. The flip-up tangent rear sight is adjustable in elevations from 400 to 2000 meters. The rear sight flips-up and adjusts fine. This rifle has a bayonet lug and cleaning rod with a front and rear swivels. There's also a Bucheimer #0243, 1-inch leather, military-style sling mounted on the gun. The sling shows some use, but is in fair condition (see photos).
We did not test-fire this gun, however it appears to be fully functional and overall in good condition mechanically and in appearance. Serial #2V435. STK. #14247.
Here is a military gun that may peak your interest if your a collector or you may consider rebarreling the action and sporterizing the gun for deer hunting.
