This is a Western Field Model 160B, bolt-action 20 gauge shotgun. The Western Field trademark has appeared on hundreds of shotguns and rifles sold through Montgomery Ward's retail stores. Most of these models were manufactured through subcontracts. This particular gun was manufactured by Mossberg. The removable magazine is missing from the gun and we do not have a magazine for this gun. The Model 160B has a 26" plain, smooth bore barrel choked "FULL" which is chambered for 2-3/4" and 3" shells.
Blue is about 70% on the gun, however most of the blue is gone from the right-side of the barrel where it appears someone used some steel wool to remove rust possibly (see photos). There are a few spots of rust in the barrel at the breech, the receiver and stock plate on the bottom of the stock. There are also some spots of rust in the bolt handle, otherwise the metal is not too bad (see photos).
The gun has an uncheckered one-piece walnut colored hardwood stock. There are some handling marks in the stock and there are numerous water spots in the finish on the sides of the stock, but no cracks. The original plastic buttplate is on the gun, it's got a few chips and marks but otherwise it's in decent condition with no cracks. L.O.P. is 13-1/2".
We did not test-fire the gun, but the gun closes reasonably tight and appears to be fully functional. As mentioned, the magazine is missing from the gun and we do not have a magazine for the gun. Overall the gun is in good condition mechanically and fair to good in appearance. Serial #823043. STK.#12362.
All this Western Field needs is a magazine and you'll have a decent bolt-action 20 gauge shotgun. You could also put some time and effort into the gun and bring it back.
