This is a U. S. Model 1917 Winchester in 30-06. The rifle has a serial number range of #2220xx which indicates the rifle was manufactured in April 1918. The top of the barrel is stamped with an "W" and the "Ordinance Bomb" with "3-18" below it. There are NO import marks on the barrel. The underneath of the rear is stamped with an "R". The gun has a front stacking swivel and front and rear sling swivels. The front face of the stock at the bayonet lug is stamped with a "W". The stock has no visible cartouches except for some sort of figure with the numerals "500" stamped 4 inches ahead of the front portion of the trigger guard assy. The top of the receiver ring is stamped "U.S. MODEL OF 1917 WINCHESTER" with the serial number. The top of the bolt handle is stamped with "H" and the "Ordinance Bomb" with an "E" on the bottom of the handle. The bolt release is stamped with the letter "E". The buttplate is the original-style steel plate with a trap door. Headspace is good with the bolt closing on a "GO" gauge and not closing on a "NO GO" gauge. The bore has deep lands and grooves amd does not appear to be pitted. There are no scratches or wear or defects in the parkerized finish which leads me to believe that this rifle may of been refinished at some time in the past, although I'm not knowledgeble enough on these rifles to say with certainty one way or another. Likewise, the stock has no scratches or cracks or dings. The stock finish is a matte oil finish. Any questions feel free to contact me.
