Guns For Sale - Mannlicher Schoenauer -- Steyr M-1908 carbine with claw mount bases

Austrian Mannlicher Shoenauer full stocked carbine.Buttplate trap door has broken latch.Has double set triggers but the hair trigger does not work.Good bore.I am not certain of the Caliber. The markings on the barrel shank are 7.9mm, 53 1/2 StmG 13gr.It has Crown N,B,U and NPV.Date seems to be 2/28.The only way to be certain of the caliber is to do a chamber cast to be able to know what caliber it is chambered for.The rear sight is 2 leaf, one fixed and one marked 300.Bolt is matching to the receiver and barrel. There is a small repair at the wrist,Darker wood was inleted in and then re-checkered to match the rest of the checkering.I have no info on the claw mount bases.OAl of rifle is 40&1/2",Barrel is 19 &1/8th"

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  why is the rear base offset? 04/09/2008
A:  Becausee the Mannlicher action has a split bridge receiver in the rear.So they have to ofset the rear base and the front one is offset also.Check out Stenich's Sniper rifle book. There are many different mounts. They did this on Steyr Straight pulls also. 04/09/2008

(Public)
Q:  Isn't this rifle probably a 8x56 m.s. This 1908 model seems to be the year most of them were made. 04/11/2008
A:  I would think so but to really be sure you would have to do a chamber cast,or have a 8mm MS round to try to see if it chambers and the bolt closes ok.So I have to warn everyone that they will have to get it checked out by a gunsmith before they try to shoot it.I have no way of telling what the caliber is other than the markings on the barrel. 04/11/2008
