NO RESERVE!! This is a Colt Model 1909 U.S. Army revolver. Chambered for the .45 Long Colt, the Model 1909 was adopted by the United States Military following many instances where the somewhat underpowered .38 Double Action Colt revolvers failed to bring down crazed Moro tribesmen during the Philippine insurrection. The Model 1909 is a variation of Colt's large frame New Service revolver, a rugged and durable design. Somewhere between 13,000-18,000 Model 1909 U.S. Army revolvers were manufactured (the exact number is not known and is the source of some speculation). Most of these were shipped to Manila in the Philippines. This revolver is from the middle of the production, with serial number 37561. It has the intials "F.B." on the right side of the frame indicating inspection by Major Frank Baker. The underside of the barrel is properly marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". The barrel is also marked with the "R.A.C." for army inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. Likewise, the R.A.C. marking is found on the rear face of the cylinder, right side of frame, and on the bottom of the left grip only. The serial number is found on the bottom of the butt, the inside of the frame opposite the crane, on the crane itself, and on the rear of the cylinder latch. The grips do not appear to be numbered. Overall condition is good but it does appear that the tropical Philippine climate took something of a toll on the finish. The finish does appear to be original but the high polish blue had faded to more of a patina and there are a few isolated areas of shallow pitting. The grips are in good condition overall however the right grip does have a chip missing for the forward corner. The mechanic appear to be in good working order. The bore is good with the exception of a couple areas of pitting. This old war-horse comes with it's original 1909 holster (dated 1911). The holster is in fair condition and is somewhat dry. The plug has been removed from the nose of the holster (this was often done to assist draining of rainwater, etc and there is some loose stitching in the trigger gusrd area. Not mint, but a good honest example of a U.S. military revolver that's no doubt seen some interesting times. Buyer pays $20.00 shipping. A C&R License is acceptable for transfer.
