This is a WWII Winchester Model 12 parkerized trench gun. The rightside of its receiver, under the ejection port, is stamped: "U.S." followed by the ordnance "flaming bomb". The "flaming bomb" is also stamped on the top, breech end of the barrel in front of the Winchester "WP" proofmark. There is an arsenal rework punch mark near the "flaming bomb". Its "mirror bore" 20 5/8" barrel is stamped: "CYL". The barrel's year of manufacture is stamped: "42" on the underside of its breech end. It has an unmarked heatshield/bayonet adapter with four rows of 19 large cooling holes. While the barrel and heatshield/bayonet adapter have virtually all of their parkerized finish, the receiver and receiver extension has mottling (bloches in the parkerized finish from very long-time storage). The action works great and the trench gun is in excellent mechancial condition. This WWII trench gun is one of the very few remaining examples of the Toole Arsenal conversion of a WWII riot gun barrel to its trench gun barrel configuration because of the non-availabilty of trench gun barrels. The arsenal brazed a sleeve onto the riot gun barrel insuring a heatshield/bayonet adapter tight fit, thus making this WWII trench gun a rare martial shotgun collectible. It has a correct two-hole magazine tube. While its wood set is solid and very nice, it does have a few handling dings and storage marks. The leftside of its buttstock is deeply struck: "TE" (Toole Arsenal's rebuild stamping). The buttstock has its original "about as new" hard rubber buttplate and buttplate screws. The bottom of the buttstock's pistol grip is deeply stamped: "10", which indicates that this trench gun was probably utilized by a law enforcement agency after WWII. Its matching serial numbers are 1010767. We now have to sell it because of my husband's advanced age and rapidly declining health. Please email us with any further ?s.
