Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - U.S. Historical Society -- Hamilton-Burr Dueling Pistols, Serial Number 3

Offered for your consideration is this Hamilton and Burr .54 caliber dueling set. This is a wonderful find. This set was produced in 1976 by the United States Historical Society. Only 1200 sets were made. This is set number 3, (numbered 3A and 3B)! We all know the story of the famous Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr duel where Hamilton was mortally wounded. Hamilton’s shot had gone off prematurely, striking a tree 12 feet above Burr, because he had mistakenly activated the set trigger causing his pistol to discharge early. These are exact reproductions of the set used in the original duel including weighted bronze fore-ends, adjustable front and rear sights, and the infamous single set triggers. The original set of dueling pistols was returned to who is now known as Chase Manhattan Bank after the duel where they have been locked in a vault until 1976. It was on the occasion of the U.S. Bicentennial anniversary that David Rockefeller, Chairman of the Board, generously gave permission to the U.S. Bicentennial Society of Richmond to remove the pistols from the vault and have them produced. These reproductions, which have been made with complete fidelity to the original surviving flintlocks, were made under the supervision of historian Virginius Dabney by Italian gunsmith Walter Agnoletto, who restores ancient arms for museums all over the world. The original pistols were completely disabled to authenticate the reproduction. It was when the locks were removed from stock that the long kept secret of the concealed hair triggers were discovered! This is your chance to own a true piece of history. These are in like new condition and besides the factory proof firing, have never been loaded or fired. They have just rested in the original factory wooden case in a private collection, until now. You will not see these again, unless you are the lucky winner. These are high quality hand made reproductions and would be a center piece to your collection. Bid with confidence, this item comes with my 100% full satisfaction return policy. Please see return policy below for details. PLEASE READ INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE YOU BID, THIS OUTLINES OUR POLICIES AND MIGHT ANSWER QUESTION(S) YOU HAVE.
