this will be that hunting rifle you treasure forever
Mauser action 30-06 rifle. The rifle Serial #
B324214 started out with a Charles
trade named Mauser barreled action imported by KBI. The action First had
work done and was completely fine tuned, accurized and special attention to the
working mechanics which each aspect of work by itself does not make a marked
difference in consistent accuracy but rather all the details combined give the
total rifle marked improvements in accuracy. As seen from bench testing this
rifle's accuracy shows it's capability of sub MOA accuracy at 100 yards
consistently with 3 shots from a cold barrel. In wrapping up the barreled action
part of this rifle the action itself has been fine-tuned and is now equal to or
better than other considered top of the line actions. The stock is unique in
that it is an original vintage FN Mauser
rifle stock that was once available to the public and considered a fine rifle
that other commercial Mauser action rifles still are compared to. The stock
therefore is a rarity and a formidable collector’s piece in itself.
Modification to the stock to accept the Charles Daly Mauser was minimal with
very little removal of stock wood. Even that little bit of material removed does
not take away from the original contour of the stock and if not known would not
be noticed at all. The major work on the stock after fully stripping it down to
bare wood and resealing it was the inletting and glass bedding that makes the
final cause for accuracy increase. Barreled action is bedded in stock up to
chamber length of barrel. From there barrel is full floated with clearance under
,010" accomplished by taping up barrel with bedding tape and glass bedding
the barrel into stock barrel channel. After which the tape is removed leaving a
close tolerance full float. Advantage to this is the effect of being more
unlikely to get debris in the channel when hunting. Finish and checkering of
stock are as follows. After resealing and filling the pores in stock it was
sanded down to bare wood again. Wood grain was whiskered one more time, fine
sanded with 400
papers and resealed with first coat of Soar Urethane which was not raved
or brushed on. It was as all the following coats were hand rubbed into stock and
sanding after each time. A total of 5 coats were applied and 1 light finish,
which was rubbed down with #0000 Steel wool. Checkering was the last to be done
and is re-cut from original FN pattern
with no modification to that pattern taken. All in all the value of this rifle
if it was commissioned for me to do would be valued at over $1000.00 with out
any parts especially the FN Mauser stock,
scope and mount. In fact the FN stock
alone without any other work being done makes this rifle a true one of a kind
custom rifle. I sincerely hope this rifle gives you many years of pleasure
whether it is in the field or at the range. I am
sure it will not only function but also perform well above you original
