Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Colt -- 45 Cal or 44/40 . Frontier Six Shooter

This is a Colt Frontier Six Shooter (written on Barrel) with serial number 167653 in three places (2 near the trigger and 1 on the metal band around the butt end). It has the colt horse symbol with this written on it in small print above the trigger " Pat Sept 19, 1871, July 2, 72 Jan 19, 75". It is a 44-40 I believe instead of a 45.cal, but not sure. According to a bidder the cal should be for this antique 44-40. See comments below. I know nothing about pistols. So I have only provided what I have found on the weapon itself. Also on the barrel is "Hartford CT USA" and "COLTS PT. F. A. MFG. C2". Any information would be helpful on this pistol, I am only a rifle guy not a pistol person. Pistol was passed down to me. Please ask questions before bidding. All reasonable offers considered. Thanks for looking.

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  Hello: FYI: Based on your stated ser.#, the gun is an Antique, made during or prior to 1898, and not required to be shipped to an FFL holder. D 08/21/2007
A:  That is true, but to ship it through the mail it has to be shipped by a FFL holder to a FFL holder. I am not a FFL holder. If you know a cheaper legal way I am interested to hear it. 08/21/2007

Q:  GKM100, Just fyi so you don't have an unhappy winner....You list this as a 45. But you indicate it is marked with Colt Frontier Six Shooter which is the factory marking for .44-40 caliber guns only. You might want to try (safely) chambering a .45 cal cartridge, which should not fit, to verify the correct caliber. Also barrels have often been changed on these old guns. Hope this helps, Best regards, Jim 08/21/2007
A:  Thanks for the info. I do not anything about pistols and this pistol in particular. Your probably righ it is a 44-40. 08/21/2007
