Here is a new, custom built, Baker Rifle from The Rifle Shoppe. This jewel is a well crafted left hand flintlock with the case hardened lock plate made from a casting off a left hand lock plate from an original Baker Rifle (indeed there were custom built left hand Baker Rifles). You can see in the photos the case hardening on the lock and the rich, rust browned barrel and other steel parts. With the brass fittings, this rifle looks very appealing. The barrel is of Colerain manufacture with their radius rifling, and bored .62 caliber like the originals. The stock is made of fine grained English walnut. There are period correct British stampings on the lock and barrel. The close wood to metal fit and all the other meticulous details and craftsmanship one would expect from an expert rifle builder are all here. There is a theaded vent sleeve installed and the hardened frizzen throws good sparks. This rifle has only been fired several times by the gunsmith to zero in the sights. The last lot of ten standard Baker Rifles build by The Rifle Shoppe, without rust browned barrel, without the English Walnut stock sold for $2,500.00 each. This custom built Baker Rifle would retail for around $2,900.00, with half that amount up front as a deposit with a two year delivery wait. My eyes are no longer up to target shooting over open sights. Consequently, this Baker Rifle would look better on your shoulder at the range or in the woods than sitting in my gun safe at home. I've set a low starting bid with no hidden reserve price since I'm not out to make a lot of money. I just want to place this fine flintlock into a good home where it will receive a deal of good use and perhaps be passed along as a fine heirloom. Please ask any questions and check my high feedback rating under the same seller name on two other well known general and specific auction sites. No hype here, just an honest auction.
