This auction is for a Tompson/Center Hawken .50 caliber rifle kit in the original box with the original instructions. This kit was purchased from J. C. Penneys in 1979. The rifle stock was partially completed but never totally. All of the parts are here with the exception of maybe a screw or two. The gun barrel has some surface rust but can be easily removed. Most parts are still in the original plastic bag. I didn't check screws but did check everything else. The J.C. Penney catalog listed this rifle as "A handsome reproduction of the early 19th century .50 cal rifle. Double-set triggers. Walnut stock with patch box. Solid brass fittings. Case-hardened steel hammer and lock plate. Barrel is 28 in. long: 45 in long overall". The task before you is one of finishing and assembling, not constructing! This means you will use finishing tools only. You will not use: planes, spokeshaves, draw knives or overly course rasps. The use of such tools will tend to remove too much material and they may catch and pick up end grains. You will use: medium course rasps, files, screw drivers, "C" clamps, center punches, drills, sandpaper and emory paper. Email me with any questions. Thanks for looking at my auction and have a great time bidding!!
