Please note the question posted at the end of this auction, which is in regard to the grips and magazine on this gun. The grips and magazine are original Walther parts, we're just not sure if they are dated correctly to the gun.
Here's an all original pre-war Walther PPK, double-action pistol chambered in .32 ACP. This PPK has the pre-war proof mark "Crown over N" which indicates the pistol was manufactured before April 1, 1940. The crown "N" proof mark is on the right-side of the slide below the ejection port and on the barrel, right above the proof mark on the slide (when the chamber is closed). According to what we've been able to find out, this early PPK might be what is called the "second model" and has the "C" shaped hammer block spring and 90 degree rotation safety catch. The pistol has a serial number of #773803.
This PPK has a 3-1/4" barrel. The top of the slide has a solid rib with fixed sights. The left-side of the slide is marked with Walther's Factory Markings which include the Walther Banner trademark, the inscription "Walther Waffenfabrik, Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thus)". Below that is "Walther Patent Cal." 7.65mm". All this is followed by "Mod PPK" (see photo). The pistol has it's original standard 7-shot, boxed magazine which fits flush to the bottom of the grips. The magazine is marked on the left-side at the bottom with "Walther" and "PPK 7.65 mm". The grips are one-piece wraparound molded plastic, colored brown. The grips are checkered and have the Walther banner located at the top on each side. There is a flat lanyard loop on the bottom of the grip.
This pistol has it's original finish (not re-blued) and looks very good for the age of the gun with bluing at about 80-90%. The proof marks and factory markings are crisp and legible. The left-side of the frame is scratched in front of the grip below the magazine release, there are also a few very small scratches on the bottom of the frame at the muzzle and on the frame above the magazine base. The left-side of the slide is also scratched in a few spots with the most notable being at the rear behind the safety catch, there is also a spot where the blue is worn in the same area (see photos).
The right-side of the frame also has a few scratches behind the trigger in front of the grip, and there's some type of staining on the frame over-hang behind the grip. The right-side of the slide has some minor scratches, the blue is slightly worn at the muzzle, and there are also some marks on the rear of the slide behind finger grooves. Finally there's what appears to be some type of staining on the top of the slide next to the solid rib with a few spots on the rib (see photo).
The bore on the 3-1/4" barrel is in good condition with crisp rifling. The one-piece plastic grips are in very good condition with no cracks. As mentioned, the gun comes with one Walther magazine, which is the original magazine stamped with Walther's factory markings. There is no box or papers for this gun, this auction is for the gun only.
Overall this gun is in excellent condition mechanically and good to very good in appearance. Serial #773803. STK. #9980.
If you're a PPK collector, this early pre-war Walther would make a fabulous addition to your collection.
