Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Browning Arms Co. -- Browning Recoilless Trap Shotgun 27

Browning Recoilless Trap Shotgun 27 Inch Micro Version No Reserve!

Up for auction is a USED Browning Recoilless Trap Shotgun, 27” barrel,12 gauge, the Micro version, made in Japan.. This model was made for a brief period of time (1993-1994) but due to low sales was dropped from the Browning catalog. The micro version (27”) and the regular version (30”) were made during this period; I don’t have production numbers but my feeling is that the 27” Micro version, meant for smaller stature shooters, is probably rarer. This gun is single shot, bolt action, with a cocking level within the forearm. It is chambered as 2 3/4” and only trap loads should be used with it. It has a spring recoil mechanism which counteracts the recoil from firing the shell. The gun comes with 3 original Invector + flush choke tubes (Full, Imp Mod, Mod), choke wrench, allen wrench, stock shims for adjusting the drop and recoil pad placement, along with a Xerox of the original Owner’s Manual. All these items are included in the auction.

Overall condition: Excellent (+) to Near Mint condition. This gun has been fired but not very much. The receiver and rib/barrel assemblies are aluminum anodized and retain about 95-98% of their original finish. The barrel is also in excellent condition, with shiny mirror bore, no bulges or scratches, and has approximately 95% of its outer bluing intact--note that the contact points in the barrel are “in the factory white” and are not blued at all -- this is how Browning made it. The front and mid rib sights are in excellent condition. The trigger gard is steel, blued, and the finish on the trigger gard does show some minor scratches, probably from storage in a hard case with no lining. The forend stock is in excellent condition and shows little if any wear or tear and has some figuring or fiddleback in it. The buttstock is also in excellent condition, featuring plain walnut, but there are some minor dents into the finish from storage or handling, these are located on the bottom near the recoil pad. Both the forend and buttstock are in their original polyurethane finish. The gun functions fine and has been thoroughly cleaned.

The only non-original piece is at the muzzle band which holds the end of the rib to the barrel and allows for adjustment of point of impact (POI). Normally, the rib is held in place with a small screw, but I found the screw would be hard to turn, making it difficult to change POI and likely to damage the anodized finish of the band in trying to loosen the screw move. Browning could have done a better job of designing this, IMO. I found a yellow plastic dowel that fits into this screwhole and holds the rib on as good as the screw did, plus, it can be more easily removed to change POI by simply pushing it out. Browning still sells these screws, so if you want to replace the yellow dowel, be my guest, give them a call, the part only costs a couple of bucks.

I am selling this shotgun due to the fact that the Micro version is a bit too short for my tastes, plus, I am really concentrating on sporting clays and this puppy is not built for that kind of shooting! Too bad, this is a really unique gun that will someday bring some $$ as a colletable. Thus, I am putting it up for auction to pass it on to someone who can use it. Thanks!

Questions for Users
Q:  whats the length of pull 02/02/2007
A:  LOP = 13" as configured with the spacers and recoil pad that you see installed on the gun in the pictures. Two additional spacers come with the kit, so I suspect you can push the LOP to 13.5", maybe 14", but I am not certain of this. 02/03/2007
Q:  Was the trigger update done by Browning? Thanks, DG 02/02/2007
A:  I'm not the original owner, so I do not know what updates, if any, were done to this shotgun. The gun came with 1 gold trigger (installed), I am assuming that it is the original factory trigger, but I cannot be absolutely sure about this. To me, the trigger feels crisp with little creep. 02/03/2007
Q:  Browning had a factory recall on all the Recoiless Trap Shotguns. Do you know if your gun was sent to Browning for the recall; problem with the gun corrected and returned? Thankyou, RG 02/05/2007
A:  Again, I am not the original owner, I do not know if this gun was serviced by Browning. The gun was purchased by me second hand from a sporting goods store, no info was relayed to me about recall service. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. 02/05/2007
