This auction is for an old H&R Topper M48 12 gauge single shot. It has been around awhile and the condition shows that. I don't know how old it is, the serial number is I82119, I think you can date it from that if you know the coding. The wood on the gun is actually ok, I believe it has been refinished in the past. There are a few scratches, but no major gouges. There is a repair at the top of the buttstock back at the buttplate, a sliver of wood was missing and the area has been worked on (see pic 3). The buttplate has been replaced, the original one was probably broken when the stock was damaged. I had a slip on recoil pad on the gun, so that never bothered me. Metal finish is very thin, and there is an area of scratches on the barrel. There is no rust or deep pitting, the bore is shiny. The biggest problem with the gun is that the action sometimes breaks open when it is fired. I suppose this could be fixed by someone with the knowhow. I don't know why it does this, when you close the action it feels very tight. Anyway, that is why I say in the decription that it needs work. Given the gun's age, I think it looks pretty good. This gun is from my private collection, I am not an FFL dealer. I don't shoot it much because of the action breaking open problem, so I am selling it. I'll only ship it to an FFL dealer.
