You are looking at a J.C. Higgins Model 20 Sears & Roebuck (583.59) 12 gauge shotgun. This gun was manufactured in 1952. The J.C. Higgins trademark appeared on many of shotguns sold through Sears & Roebuck. Most models were manufactured through sub-contracted manufacturers.
This 12 gauge shotgun is a pump action shotgun that is chambered in 2 3/4". The gun has a 28" barrel choked MOD. The bore is in good condition. Bluing on the gun is 50-60%. There are numerous scratches along the barrel and some deep scratches on the top of the barrel near the breech. The breech end of the barrel and the bottom sides of the receiver show some patina.
The forearm and buttstock are walnut. The finish on the bottom of the forearm is worn and there is a 1/2" gouge on the bottom left-side of the forearm but no cracks. The finish on the buttstock is good and there are no cracks in the buttstock. The buttstock has the original J.C. Higgins red recoil pad. The pad is in good condition with no splits or cracks.
Overall the gun is in very good condition mechanically and good in appearance. Serial #NONE. STK. #9355.
This Sears & Roebuck may be just like the one your Dad used or you as a kid. It wouldn't take too much to bring this one back like new. Or, if your looking for a 12 gauge pump that you won't mind taking to the field this J.C. Higgins fits the bill!
