This is a Western Field Model 600A ERI, 12 Gauge semi-auto shotgun chambered for 2-3/4" shells. The Western Field trademark has appeared on hundreds of shotguns and rifles sold through Montgomery Ward's retail stores. Most of these models were manufactured through subcontracts. The gun was originally manufactured for Western Field by Remington and is a Remington Sportsman Model 58, but it dosen't have the gas regulating magazine cap. We assume is was replaced with a standard 870 mag cap at some time. The gun will function fine as is or you could find an original cap and replace the existing one.
This shotgun has a 28" ventilated rib, smooth bore barrel, with a front bead and mid-bead. The barrel is choked MOD and the bore is in very good condition with no rust pitting. Bluing on the gun is 98%. Both sides of the receiver are scroll engraved with game scenes. There is one thin 1/4" scratch on the top left-side of the receiver, otherwise the metal is in very good condition.
The gun has a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip buttstock. There are some scratches on the forearm and buttstock and the buttstock has a nick on the left-side and a gouge on the bottom, but neither is cracked. The buttstock has been cut-down approximately 1" and a White Line Pachmayr recoil pad has been added to the buttstock. The recoil pad is in very good condition with no cracks or tears. Serial #04916V. STK. #8290.
This Wards Western Field 12ga. made by Remington would make a great semi-auto small game or duck gun. This is definitely one you could get a lot of use out of in the field.
