Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Marlin Rare Rare Model 47 -- 22 Pump Rifle This Model Was Never Sold to Public

ADDED 6-2-2006: Could this be Model 47, serial number 1 or a factory protype?? Take a look at the photo of the serial number on the bottom tang. It looks like there are two numbers: 47 and 1 (there appears to be a space between the 47 and the 1) Its probably just poor number stamping at the factory but its something to think about! ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Up for sale is an exceedingly rare Marlin .22 caliber slide action rifle. It is the Model 47, a very unique Marlin. It was introduced around 1930 and only produced for one year. These little rifles were never offered for retail sale to the general public. The only way to get one was to buy 4 shares of Marlin preferred stock for $100. You then got the gun for free! The model 47 was identical to the Model 20 Marlin, except for the case colored receiver, and checkered buttstock and forend. It was made in limited numbers, as nobody was buying stock in anything at that time, so Marlin didn't give a lot of them away. The Model 47 was the only Marlin to ever use cyanide case hardening also. The distinctive pattern on the receiver was much like that used on Stevens rifles, and unlike any other Marlin. The magazine held 18 rounds and shot shorts, longs, and long rifle ammo. According to Marlin expert Col. Brophey, the lowest known serial number was 1247 and the highest was 1501. However, ours is 471, now the lowest known. OR, is ours 47 (for model 47) and then – 1??? If it is, what an investment!! The condition is as follows. All metal is turning a nice plum brown and is generally nice and smooth. The stock finish is worn with some dings. The bore has some roughness but should clean up a bit. The stock was partially cracked on the left size of the comb but has been nicely repaired. This is a real collector’s item – I searched the internet and a number of auction catalogs for them and only found minor information about them. FFL or C&R required. Shipping to be paid by buyer. We accept cashier’s checks, money orders, credit cards (add 3% for handling) and personal checks (item held 10 days for clearing). State Line Gun Shop is located on the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border just North of Fitchburg, Mass on Rt. 31 at the intersection of Rt. 124.
