Offered is a genuine U.S. issue Model of 1903 Rifle manufactured by the Government Arsenal at Rock Island in the WWI era. The rifle, serial number 417215, is one of the recent Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) 1903’s. The rifle came from CMP, packed with a very liberal coating of heavy grease, since removed and a dreadful chore. Rifle comes complete with its factory shipping container (not shown, but in excellent condition) which will be used to ship to the winners FFL. The winning bidder will also receive all the original CMP paperwork; bill of sale, certificate of authenticity and owners manual pictured here. The original buyers name/address has been electronically removed from the images shown, but is unaltered on the original paperwork. These 03’s are not new and have been rebuilt. This is a desirable “High Serial Number” Rock Island Arsenal rifle. The “High Serial Number” designation means the receiver was manufactured using a Double Heat Treatment process (instituted at Rock Island at #285507 and at Springfield Armory at approximately #800000). These Double Heat Treated receivers corrected a weakness problem found in earlier numbered receivers and are safe to fire with modern smokeless ammunition. The rifle has not been examined for originality of parts. Most of these rifles are mis-matched to some degree or other. The rifle has an early straight grip Type “S” stock with finger grooves and two stock bolts. The stock shows wear and the normal dents and dings, but it does not appear to be cracked. I see only a faint Circle P cartouche at the wrist, underside. The barrel bands and sling swivels are forged, the trigger guard is WWII stamped, 03A3 style. The barrel is a Springfield Armory, marked SA over the flaming bomb and dated 8-28. The barrel is also proofed on the underside, opposite the above markings, with the letters “T” and “P”. The finish is a light grey parkerization that shows even wear. The metalwork is nice with no corrosion evident. The bore looks nice with no pitting evident. Buyer to pay $15.00 shipping costs via UPS or Fed-Ex, insured. I will not ship this rifle uninsured. As everyone should know, I can ship only to the holder of a valid Federal Firearms License. C & R eligible. Contact your local dealer and he/she will know what to do and can advise you of any fees involved on their end. The price you pay me is your high bid plus $15.00 shipping and insurance, no hidden costs. Recently started using Auction Arms so don’t yet an awful lot of feedback, but if you’re concerned about that, check me out on ebay, same handle “boogiedoogie”, same great service.
