COLT ~ 1911 FIRST YEAR MFD 1912
EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION!!...C&R
NO RESERVE!! Here's an exceptional, early example of the most famous American semi-automatic pistol ever made. This is a Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army .45 automatic that was manufactured in 1912, the first year of production! This pistol is in excellent original condition and all component parts appear to be correct. The slide is correct for a pistol in this early range and lacks the 1913 patent date that was not added until 1914. The rear sight is the correct round-top style and the rampant colt trademark is found within a circle behind the cocking serrations. The barrel has the correct "H" Hosmer inspection marking, stamped vertically without serrifs, on the rear face of the chamber hood. The hammer is the correct early short style, the safety has the correct early narrow/sharp style thumbpiece, the recoil spring guide is correct with sharp legs, the recoil spring plug is correct with the rectagular punch mark, etc. Condition is quite good and I'd grade the original finish at about 95-96% with minimal sharp edge wear, the usual takedown scratch, and some light handling wear and patina to the grip straps. There is no significant rust or pitting. The original grips are in excellent shape very little wear, no cracks or chips, and nice sharp checkering. I should mention that two of the grip screws are buggered a bit and frozen in their bushings...I was unable to remove the grips from the frame but was able to verify that they are correct, original Colt grips. The mechanics are in perfect working order with everything working properly. The bore rates about excellent with sharp, bright rifling that shows just a few slight spots of frost but no pitting...a 9.5 on a 10 scale! This pistol comes with one correct "key hole" lanyard loop magazine which has lost almost all of its finish but is in generally very good shape otherwise. Records indicate this pistol was shipped to Springfield Armory on December 21, 1912. A really nice 105-year-old investment grade Colt 1911 pistol that would make an outstanding addition to anyone's military collection!
