Seller's Description
LSB#: 170125DR02

Make: Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.

Model: The American Double Action, 1st Model 2nd Variation

Serial Number: 131

Year of Manufacture: 1888-1897 (“H. & R. Arms Inc.” by Goforth)

Caliber: .44 Centerfire, Black Powder (.44 Webley is noted in Goforth's work)

Action Type: Single/Double Action Revolver with Pull-Pin 5 Round Cylinder

Markings: The topstrap is marked “THE AMERICAN / DOUBLE ACTION”. The lower left side of the grip frame is marked "131", seen again on the inside of the grip panels.

Barrel Length: The octagon barrel is 2 1/2” in length.

Sights / Optics: The revolver is mounted with shallow “U” groove in the top of the frame and a rounded blade front sight fixed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are black checkered hard rubber with a crown and castle pattern. The grips show light handling marks, a few small dings in the bottom of the right grip and light wear in the checkering. The grips rate in about Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: The revolver, including the trigger guard, is nickel plated.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is brown with surface erosion, the rifling is lightly discernible. There are spots of pitting in the bore.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 45% of its metal finish. The pistol shows large areas of finish loss with dark eroded metal showing through. The remaining nickel is mostly dull or milky. There are several handling marks and gouges as photographed. The screw heads are strait and the markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fair condition.

Mechanics: The frame has a loading gate, the center pin could not be removed without possibly damaging the metal, the revolver needs a thorough cleaning. The cylinder produces wide play side to side in full lockup with mild back play. We did not fire this revolver.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This revolver is a solid frame five shot double action pocket pistol built on an all steel frame. It was designed with a nickel finish, a round butt and a 2 1/2” octagon barrel. It is an H &R Arms Model “The American Double Action” revolver built between 1888 and 1897. This pistol would make a great restoration project for someone with knowledge of these vintage revolvers. It definitely screams "VINTAGE" and would look great on display.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This Antique revolver can be transferred/sold in California. It can be sold as a DROS or PPT at our shop in Simi Valley. All cartridge firing handguns (even C&R's and antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS'd. This does not apply to out of state residents.
