Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Butch Searcy & Co. BS1 Stalking Model, Superb Wood Blue & Case Colored 24 7/8” -- Falling Block Takedown Rifle & Case, MFD 2000's

LSB#: 161122TA10

Make: Butch Searcy & Co.

Model: Stalking Rifle with BS1 Falling Block Receiver

Serial Number: S-108

Year of Manufacture: Butch Searcy introduced this model to the public in 2007, there are no date codes for an exact DOM.

Caliber: .375 Holland & Holland

Action Type: Single Shot, Falling Block, Lever Actuated Rifle with Internal Hammer

Markings: The top of the ¼ rib is marked “.375 H&H MAG”, the flanks of the receiver are marked “B. Searcy & Co.”, the upper tang is marked with the serial number. The recoil pad is marked “Pachmayr”.

Barrel Length: 24 7/8” from the muzzle to the breech block.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a white beaded blade, dovetailed onto a barrel band sight base with a rear ramp, the sight is covered with a removable hood with forward knurling. The rear sight is a small “U” within “V” notched base, dovetailed onto the rib, the rear of the base has a strait line for coupling with the front dot. The rear of the rib measures 0.500” wide and is slotted for claw mount bases (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are stunning matte finished Exhibition European walnut with vivid grain burl and splendid fit to the wood. This is the take down model, which has a flank checkered forend, set to a case colored bracket, aligning perfectly to the front of the receiver, which has an extra panel of wood on the flanks. The butt stock has a case color capped pistol grip and double-beveled left side cheek piece. The underside of the butt stock has a QD swivel stud, the forward stud is integral to the rear barrel band. Both stocks are free of any notable damages. Drop at comb is 1 ½”, drop at heel is 2 1/8”. The LOP measures 13 ¾” from the front of the trigger to the back of the Pachmayr brand brown rubber recoil pad; the pad is set with a black spacer and is free of damages. The stocks rates in about Excellent Plus to Mint overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Colored

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some shallow marks on the rear right of the barrel by the receiver, the left of the rear sight has tooling marks and small scratches. The left of the rib has light surface etching. The case coloring is highly vivid and without notable marks. The rifle looks to have been used infrequently, if at all outside of the factory. The metal to metal fit is superb with masterful craftsmanship evident. The screw heads are sharp and appear un-turned. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a BS1 falling block receiver with internal hammer, modeled after the Westley Richards 1897 action. The trigger consistently pulled at 5lbs 4oz with no creep. The rifle is the higher grade take-down type with only light scuff wear on the joining components, covered with the rifle assembled. There is zero play in any of the components, this is one well made rifle! We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a black plastic hard case with gray foam inner linings and two keys for the external locks. The exterior has minor marks, rating in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: Currently located in Boron, California, just north of Edwards Air Force Base in upper Southern California, Butch Searcy and his crew create nothing less than phenomenal product in the form mainly of double rifles and single shot target rifles. This is the Stalking model with exhibition grade European walnut stocks, charming case colored items and a rich, blue barrel with ¼ rib. This item looks to have seen little use, if any outside of the factory and grabs the eye immediately. With its hearty .375 H&H Magnum cartridge, you can take anything in North America and challenge dangerous game in Africa. If you need a safari rifle, this one has some history behind the development of the action and the quality of build flirts with christened gun makers in late 1890’s London. We would put this rifle up against any other.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred/sold in California.
