Caliber: 12 Gauge 2 3/4" Shotgun Barrel (Upper) / .222 Remington Rifle (Lower)
Action Type: Over / Under Combination Shotgun / Rifle Selective Barrel Long Arm
Markings: The left of the chamber area is marked "TIKKA / 12-70 .222 REM", the left of the rifle barrel is marked ".222 REM", the left of the hinged lug has an inspection mark and "37520". The left of the receiver has Tikka's company logo, the inside of the receiver is marked "7520" (also seen on top of the forend bracket, the right is marked "ITHACA GUN CO., INC. ITHACA, N.Y. / MADE IN FINLAND", the butt plate is marked "ITHACA".
Barrel Length: 23” rifle barrel with 1 1/4" muzzle brake, 25" shotgun barrel with screw-in choke. We could not remove the choke from the barrel.
Choke: The choke is screw-in but is currently stuck, we soaked the item in oil, an extended soaking should remedy this. The current choke is Full, at 0.684" at the muzzle.
Sights / Optics: This combination gun is mounted with a small blade, dovetailed onto the fluted rib, the rear sight is a "U" notched leaf in a base which allows windage and elevation adjustments, in a flip-up base that lies flat with the rib in the down position. The top of the rib is matted for glare reduction, the flanks are fluted to allow claw mount bases, at .40" wide. The top of the chamber also has slots for claw mounts at .45" wide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are beautiful walnut items with fine checkering on the forend and skip-line checkering on the black capped pistol grip. The forend has a QD swivel stud, the wood shows a few scattered light marks. The butt stock has an angular left side cheek piece and QD swivel in the belly, the comb is Monte Carlo. The stock only has light marks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate, which shows light wear. The buttplate is in about Very Good to Fine condition. The stocks rate in about Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blue Steel
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The shotgun bore is bright with no erosion. The rifle barrel, interestingly enough, has spots of pitting throughout the bore. We cleaned the bore for a while with different chemicals and nothing came out, so we do not believe it is fowling.
Overall Condition: This combination gun retains about 85% of its metal finish. There is rub wear on the barrel selector and on the edges of the receiver. The slotted cuts on the receiver have light marring in areas. The other surfaces show only a few light marks outside of a ding on the left of the chamber block. The screw heads are sharp but with marks from a screwdriver. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition but for the rifle bore.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The action closes with a fine clunk and has zero play. The hammer has a strong mainspring and the trigger pull is crisp at about 2lbs 4oz. The barrel selector is on the left of the frame. We did not fire this combination gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This rifle/shotgun combination is perfect for use in the field. With a 12 Gauge shotgun barrel and .222 Remington lower rifle barrel, you can hunt medium sized game and if it happens to be dangerous, you can have a follow up shot to make sure it stops; this model is specifically geared towards turkey hunting and it would be a nice piece for next year's Thanksgiving dinner. The shotgun barrel has a removable choke that, ironically, is stuck but once removed, one could put a cylinder choke in and shoot slugs!
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle/shotgun combination can be transferred/sold in California.
