Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are serrated black plastic with a five pointed star on each grip. The grips show no marks and are in Like-New condition.
Type of Finish: The slide is stainless steel. The frame is steel, but we are not sure what the finish is. Please help us!
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion. Neither the barrel nor the breechface appear as though this pistol was ever fired outside the factory.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The frame shows some manufacturing marks under the finish that were never polished out. In addition, there are light scratches on the right side of the frame above the grip and a mark caused by the safety on the left side. The rear edge of the right side and the backstrap show pinprick surface erosion. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger has just a small amount of creep. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with one stainless steel magazine marked “6118” on its floorplate. It shows no wear, and the follower doesn’t look like a round has ever been slid over it. It is in Like-New condition. The pistol comes in its original Sportarms/Norinco factory black cardboard box. The model number is shown on the cover and the serial number is written-in with ink on one of the end panels. The box shows wear at the corners with handling marks. The inside of the box has a Styrofoam liner cut-out for the pistol and accessories. The Styrofoam is intact, but shows staining from oil and/or rust. Overall, the box is in Fine condition. The box includes a cleaning rod with patches that is still sealed in its factory shrink-wrap package. We did not remove it from the package to inspect its condition. Also included is an owner’s manual in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This pistol is a Chinese copy of a Russian Tokarev, with a safety added for importation into the United States. The frame has some issues from sitting in the box for 25 years, but the pistol appears to never have been shot outside the factory, so you can be sure it isn’t worn out from over-use. It is still a very nice looking firearm, and is waiting for someone to notice it and take it out to play with it.
