Guns For Sale - Colt Model 1873 SAA Peacemaker -- .44-40 Single Action Army Revolver - In the Box

LSB#: 130411JM02

Make: Colt

Model: Single Action Army

Serial Number: S55444A

Year of Manufacture: Post-1993

Caliber: .44-40 (44 WCF)

Action Type: Single Action Army with Side-Gate Loading Revolver

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” and the left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44-40” while the left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871 / JULY 2 72 JAN.19. 75” and with a Rampant Colt. The underside of the frame forward of the grip frame is marked “S55444A”. The left top of the trigger guard has the “VP” proof mark and the left rear top is marked with a “5”.

Barrel Length: 4 ¾”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a square notch milled into the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered hard black rubber with an ovalled Rampant Colt at the top and an Eagle at the bottom. We find no marks on the grips. The grips rate in about Excellent Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue Barrel and Grip Frame with Case Colored Frame

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99.9% of its metal finish. The cylinder has the faintest start of a drag line. The case coloring on the frame and loading gate is beautiful. The trigger is blued as are the top and back of the hammer. The screw heads are sharp and unturned. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A Colt blue Custom Shop box with a gold Rampant Colt inside a three circles with “COLT’S MFG. CO. LLC” AND “HARTFORD, CT.” written inside them on the lid. The inside of the box has gray egg crate foam. The box and foam are in Excellent condition. The blue box is protected by a white cardboard box that is in Very Good condition and has an end label that describes this particular revolver. The white box has some scuff marks and a small ¼” tear at one end. A Colt owner’s manual is provided in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: This is a beautiful looking case colored Colt SAA in the traditional cowboy caliber .44-40. It has the short 4 ¾” barrel favored by many of the quick draw artists and gunfighters. It comes - quite possibly unfired, in a Colt Custom Shop box and is ready to blaze away at the next cowboy action match you attend. Don’t let this revolver languish in the dark of some gun safe; take it out and shoot it!

All cartridge firing handguns (even C&R's and antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS'd. This does not apply to out of state residents.
