There is also some surface rust that has raised above the metal. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, however the slide release lever is sticking occasionally. We have not fired this shotgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This pump shotgun was designed by no less than John Browning, and has several design improvements over his previous pump shotguns. It has a very strong and simple take-down mechanism compared to the Winchester Model 97 and Model 12. It also has a very smooth and straight bolt/pump movement. The Ranger brand may have been sold by Sears, but Stevens sold the same basic gun as their Model 520. Stevens boasted in their promotional literature that “A Model 520 Stevens used in testing heavy loads by a leading manufacturer of shotgun shells has been fired over 100,000 times and is still in perfect working order.” These are workhorse pump-guns and still capable of harvesting game in the field or defending hearth and home.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R eligible shotgun can be transferred in California.
