Markings: The left side of the chamber ring is marked “E3”, a Czech Lion, “38” and “5393R4”. The left side of the receiver is marked “Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka, A.S., Brno / VZ24.”. The top of the bolt handle is marked with a proof and “R23550”, and the underside with a circled “S”. The bolt knob is marked with a proof on the top and an “E” on the bottom. The top of the chamber ring is marked with a large Lion which is very faint. The right side of the chamber ring is marked with a small Czech Lion.

Finish Originality: The receiver has been re-blued.
Bore Condition: No Barrel Present
Overall Condition: This receiver retains about 50% of its metal finish, with all parts showing pinprick surface erosion. There is a large spot of erosion on the chamber ring. The finish is worn from the back of the bolt and the bolt release, and the bolt handle shows thinning. The screw heads are disfigured, except for the bolt release screw, which is still sharp. The markings are clear except for those near the top of the chamber ring. Overall, this receiver rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The bolt functions correctly. There is no safety.

Our Assessment: The Czech VZ24 Mauser is one of the most popular export rifles of its day. It was supplied to armies around the world, and is a great rifle with lots of history in many countries. This receiver is just waiting for someone to add a barrel, safety, and stock to rejuvenate its life.
