Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are hard pebbled nylon old style Hogue Monogrips. There are the normal handling marks and several abrasions are visible on the right side near the Hogue logo. These are the old style grips that require removal of the grip pin from the bottom of the grip frame. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is almost sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. There is a drag line on the cylinder and all the leading edges of the revolver show holster wear. The left side of the frame shows some surface erosion from moisture trapped under the top of the nylon grip. This revolver shows the type of finish wear typical of a law enforcement duty gun. The screw heads are slightly distressed but still very serviceable. The markings are clear. The hammer and trigger are case colored. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly for a double action only revolver. This is a Square Butt, K Frame revolver with a pinned barrel. It has a checkered .500” wide Target hammer and a serrated .265” wide Service trigger. The grip pin that belongs at the bottom of the grip frame is not provided. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: Due to the condition of this 4” barreled .38 Special S&W revolver it is very likely this was a service revolver for someone in law enforcement. The fact that it has been rendered double action only adds to the likelihood. The banged up rear sight blade and hard nylon Hogue grips are a further indications of a police past. Typically, these guns are mechanically Fine and cosmetically Fair, this one is cosmetically a little better than that. Revolvers like this are great for home protection and self-defense and can be campaigned in IDPA or ICORE competitions and make a great platform for building a custom revolver.
