Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Echasa Model GZ MAB -- .32 ACP Single Action Semi-Auto Pistol

LSB#: 121126FS01

Make: Echasa (Echave y Arizmendi), Eibar, Spain

Model: GZ MAB

Serial Number: 13570

Year of Manufacture: 1964 "J1" date code on frame. Please see Comments at the end of the listing for more information.

Caliber: .32 ACP (7.65mm)

Action Type: Single Action Semi-Automatic with Removable Magazine

Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “ECHASA – EIBAR (Espana) / Cal. 32(7.65m/m) – Modelo GZ-MAB Espanola / Made In Spain”. The right sides of the slide and the barrel each have a proof mark. The right side of the frame is marked with 2 proofs and “MadeInSpain”. The bottom of the grip is marked “13570”.

Barrel Length: 3 ¼”

Sights / Optics: The pistol is mounted with a low profile rear sight dovetailed in the slide and a front blade.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black plastic with a “MAB / Espanola” logo on each grip. The grips show only light wear in the checkering and rate in about Very Good to Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued Slide and Black Coated Alloy Frame

Finish Originality: The finish appears to be all original, although there are fine sanding marks under the finish of the slide which could have been the way it was finished at the factory, or sanded down to remove erosion and then refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 90% of its metal finish. The slide shows scratches and pinprick surface erosion around the front sight, and pinprick surface erosion on the left side, with deeper spots along the top edge and at the rear. The hammer and trigger also show pinprick surface erosion. The grip shows minor handling marks. The grip screws are not disfigured, but show erosion at the bottom of the slots. The markings are shallow but readable. Overall, this pistol rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with one blued magazine. It has very light wear and is in Fine condition.

Our Assessment: Per unblinkingeye.com, the Model GZ was originally made by MAB in France in 1957, but the license was sold to Echasa in 1962. They were intended to be a copy of the Walther PP, except in single action instead of double, and were available in .22, .25, .32 and .380 calibers. This pistol would be great for plinking, or concealed carry by someone who didn’t like the recoil of a larger caliber.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This pistol is NOT on the California “roster of handguns certified for sale” and can only be sold to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. This does not apply to out of state buyers.

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  re: "Type of Finish: Blued Slide and Black Coated Alloy Frame" -- this has a Zamack (ie, zinc aluminum alloy) frame that has been anodized black. These pistols were also made with a chromed slide and anodized natural alloy (ie, silver) frame. Echasa also sold these same pistols internationally under the names Echasa FAST, EA FAST, Echasa Basque, EA Basque, and in the US under the retailer names Dickson Special Agent, Madison, Liberty Arms, Falcon and Volunteer (additional retailer names may have been used). The Echasa model designation for a 7.65mm (.32ACP) pistol with a blued slide, black anodized frame, and black plastic grips was "761". There were two variants for this pistol (other than caliber and finish) -- this is the earlier one. The change occured in 1966 or 1967. The most obvious difference is the number of grip serrations on the slide, and how they are angled. There are more proof marks on the right rear tang, but some are hidden under the right grip panel. One of these is a standard Eibar (Spanish) letter code indicating the year the pistol was manufactured (for example, "H1" = 1962; "J1" = 1964, etc). Since the Spanish alphabet is not exactly the same as the English alphabet and has some additional characters (such as "LL" and "CH"), as well as accented characters, that are sometimes - but not always - included in the code, a code chart should be used to check the dates. Can you tell me the manufacturing year code for this pistol? Thanks, Bill 01/13/2013
A:  Thanks for the great information. Under the right grip on the frame is "J1". So from your research this pistol would have been born 1964. I will be updating the listing and thanks again. Dan 01/14/2013
