Year of Manufacture: This is a 1908 DWM Mauser rifle refurbished by Brazil in the late 1940s.

Markings: The top of the receiver ring has the Brazilian crest. The left side of the receiver is marked “4909”, and “Fabrica De Itajuba-Brasil”, and on the right “Mod. 08/34.30”. The right side of the barrel at the muzzle is marked “CAI St Alb VT / Germany “.
Barrel Length: Approx. 24”
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with standard military sights; a protected front blade, and a slide adjustable rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are re-finished smooth military wood. There are just a few nicks and dings. The finish shows bubbles and orange peel in places. The LOP measures approx. 13 1/8” from the trigger to the back of the metal buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp but interrupted by pitting. There is pitting and erosion present. This bore will likely shoot well.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scratches and light erosion near the muzzle, and some pinprick erosion at the front barrel band. The receiver is nicely blue with beginning surface erosion but the metal is smooth . The Screw heads are sharp and show minor use. The markings are clear, the crest is sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.

Our Assessment: This is a sharp military rifle in a great caliber .30-06. The bore may improve by shooting modern ammo and cleaning the rifling further. Here is a good project gun to work on this winter.
