Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Smith & Wesson”, and the right “38 S&W Special Ctg.”. The bottom of the grip frame, bottom of the barrel flat, and the back of the cylinder are marked “K217051”. The S&W trademark, and the four line “Marcas Registradas” address are found on the right side of the frame. The left side of the grip frame under the grips is marked “H”, and “N3”, the right side is marked “L”, H”, and “I”. The inside of the left grip is marked “cleaned oiled and serviced J. Franks 7-4-2010” in pencil.

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a target front sight on a matte serrated rib with a micrometer adjustable rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are oversize smooth target grips with S&W medallions. These are likely not the original grips. The grips are nearly new without scratches cracks or losses and show just minor handling marks. The grips rate in about Excellent plus overall condition.

Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion. This is a great bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish. The ejector rod shows some finish loss, as does the front edges of the cylinder. There is a visible dragline. There is a small scratch on the left side of the trigger and a little wear on the hammer. The case colors of the hammer and trigger are vivid. . The Screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly both single and double action. This revolver features a full length serrated rib with target hammer, target sights, and target stocks. The backstrap is serrated also. We did not fire this revolver.

Our Assessment: This revolver is built on the square butt K target frame with five screws. Please see pages 144-145 of “The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson”, by Supica and Nahas for more details. This revolver is in fantastic condition with a great bore and great exterior and will make a great collectable as well as a shooter.
