Model: Model 77
Serial Number: NSN
Year of Manufacture: Post 1960 (Chicopee Falls). Please help us more accurately date this shotgun.
Caliber: 12 Gauge 2 ¾”
Action Type: Pump Action Shotgun
Markings: The barrel is marked "Stevens / Savage Arms Corporation / Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. / Model 77". We cannot read the date code on top of the barrel. Perhaps it is "17E"? The right side of the barrel is marked "Proof Tested - 12 Gauge / 2 3/4 Inch Chamber".
Barrel Length: 28" to the end of the choke.
Choke: The choke is an adjustable Savage "Super-Choke".
Sights / Optics: The rifle is mounted with a silver bead on the top of the choke.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are lightly finished wood with few dings and marks. There is a bit of rubbing and finish loss on the left side of the stock. There are no splits or cracks. The LOP measures 14" to the end of the recoil pad. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright, though just a bit fouled. There is no pitting or erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scattered pinprick surface rust throughout, from poor storage. There is little wear on the gun and despite the poor storage, the vast majority of the finish is retained. The magazine tube has thinned a bit from operating the slide. There are a few marks and dings on the trigger guard and the top of the receiver at the ejection port shows a light dent, this does not affect the functionality of the gun. The Screw heads are sharp, with only a few showing any turning. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions, though we are not sure it is correct. The Action will close, and the trigger drops the hammer, but the gun will not release after the hammer drops. Perhaps a live round will solve this. We are able to open the action with the release at the trigger guard.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This is a good condition, fairly vintage shotgun that may only need a bit of garage tinkering. Its still made in America, from quality materials and from a known maker. Might be a bit of a project, or maybe not, but either way this will make a sold and usable shotgun for you.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can be transferred in California.
