Make: Marlin Firearms Company
Serial Number: NSN, Pre 1968
Year of Manufacture: 1964 - 1968
Caliber: .22 Long Rifle
Action Type: Semi-Automatic Rifle
Markings: The barrel is marked near the muzzle “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. / MODEL 99 M-1 CAL .22 LR / NEW HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A.”.
Barrel Length: 18”
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a raised blade front sight. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for elevation and windage. The rear sight is also mounted to an integrated rail on the top of the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is smooth wood with a dark stain. There are marks by the front barrel band, evidence of removal of the barrel band . This is a VERY tight fit. Removal of this band could cause further damage to the wood and will not be done in our shop. There are only light handling marks elsewhere, no gouges or deep scratches. There is a light pressure mark under the ejection port and a hairline scratch in the buttstock. This stock could have been refinished (?) because of plug in the buttstock where the old sling was mounted and the now Excellent condition. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the trigger to the plastic Marlin buttpad. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: The finish is original with a possibly refinished stock.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is fouling present in the barrel, but no apparent pitting.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows marks on the edges and high points of the receiver. There is some very light frosting on the right side of the barrel. These imperfections are easily overlooked given the overall quality. The Screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: A great looking .22. At first glance you think your looking at an M-1 carbine. Then as you hold it and start to look closer you realize your holding a .22 with a tube fed magazine. This is a nice body kit and understandably good choice by Marlin. While everyone else has their .22 dressed up like an AR, you can have an M-1 look-a-like. This was also a promotional model made by Marlin, so you're not buying a gun with a body kit, but the actual model that came out. Collectible!
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle is transferable in California.
