Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are re-finished military stocks. The right side of the forend has an ink stamp “9 7650”. The stocks have been refinished and there are some bare spots but there are no cracks or losses. The finish is gone on the left side at the receiver, and on the right side above the trigger. There is an extra hole in the stock at the front sling swivel. The LOP measures approx. 13 ¾” from the trigger to the back of the rubber Pachmayr buttpad. The rubber is soft and pliable. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue/None remaining.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is somewhat bright and the rifling is sharp but a bit shallow. There is mild erosion/fouling the length of the bore. Multiple patches came out dirty so more cleaning will likely improve this bore. This bore is shootable.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 10% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows mostly gray/brown throughout. There is mottled gray on the barrel and receiver. There is still some blue visible on the bolt , flooprlate, and sling swivel. The Screw heads are sharp and show light use/disfiguration. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Sling swivels are installed.
Our Assessment: This is an uncompleted project rifle. It is in a hunting friendly configuration with tapered barrel, and sporting style stock. This rifle needs a new home and some TLC. Please see page 191 of “Mauser Military Rifles of the World” fifth edition by Robert Ball for more information. This will make a great winter project.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R rifle can be transferred in California.
