Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this pistol. This pistol features a safety/ de-cocking lever
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: One magazine marked “S&W” is provided, there is not much finish remaining on the magazine.
Our Assessment: The S&W Model 39 is the first modern 9mm pistol manufactured in the U.S.A. It was the first to be adopted by law enforcement as they began the transition from revolvers to semi-auto handguns. This pistol is not only suited to police work, but is particularly well suited for home defense. It is in a controllable caliber for which serious defensive ammunition is available. It has a magazine safety, and thus cannot be fired if the magazine is not fully engaged. It also has a combination safety lever / de'cocker so that a cocked hammer never has to be lowered by holding back on the hammer while pulling the trigger. By virtue of the single stack magazine, the grip is small enough to comfortably fit most adult hands. This would be an excellent choice to make if you’re looking for a handgun to keep at home.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This pistol is not on the California “roster of handguns certified for sale”, and can only be transferred to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. This does not apply to out of state buyers.
