Make: Birmingham Small Arms Co.
Model: No. 4 Cadet
Serial Number: X112
Year of Manufacture: 1909-1918
Caliber: .357 Magnum.

Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “Made by The Birmingham Small Arms Co. Ltd. / Trade Marks / B.S.A.”. The top of the receiver is marked “357 Mag”. The right side of the receiver is marked “Commonwealth of Australia” / "X112". The right side of the barrel is marked “75989”, and a proof mark and “310 12-20”. The top of the barrel is marked “Made by The Birmingham Small Arms Co. Ltd.” . There are Patent numbers on the sight.
Barrel Length: 25 ¼”
Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a fixed post front sight and a military style windage and elevation adjustable rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are wood, custom and with a pistol grip. There are very few marks or depressions and no splits or cracks. The wood shows just a bit of handling wear and discoloration. The LOP measures approx. 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: The finish was possibly re-applied when the barrel was changed.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is a puzzling patch of damage / pitting / wear / production flaw (?) near the muzzle. It almost looks like a 1 1/2" patch of pitting in one of the grooves, and this follows the rifling. I'd guess termite damage if it was wood...we have never seen anything like this. There is no OTHER apparent erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a light patina on the lever, mottling on the trigger guard and tool marks on the right side of the frame. There is mild edge wear, thinning and discoloration throughout. The Screw heads are serviceable, showing light use and minor disfiguration. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This is a very cool, very strong multipurpose rifle in a great caliber; .357 magnum. This rifle can shoot both .38 special and .357 magnum ammunition, making it the coolest plinker around. Have some fun with this rifle – this is a honey to shoot. The original caliber of this rifle was .310, since it has been re-barreled it is no longer in its original condition and now requires an FFL to transfer. C&R firearms are only C&R’s when they remain in their original configuration
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California.
