LSB#: 120605CB03

Make: Smith & Wesson

Model: Model 10 - 5

Serial Number: C810572

Year of Manufacture: 1966

Caliber: .38 Special

Action Type: Single Action and Double Action Swing Out Cylinder Revolver

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. / 10 – 5”. The yoke is marked “67900 / P”. The face of the cylinder is marked with an “N” and “537” under the extractor star. The bottom of the square butt frame is marked “C810572”. On the right side there is a large S&W logo on the 3 screw sideplate. The right side of the frame has the four line “Marcas Registradas” address. The right side of the barrel is marked “.38 S. & W. SPL.”.

Barrel Length: 2”

Sights / Optics: The revolver is mounted with a serrated ramp 1/8” fixed sight. There is a square notch rear sight milled into the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut Magna style with silver colored S&W medallions. There are no chips in the grips but there is a small crack on the top of the left panel at the back. There are several damaged diamonds at the bottom of the checkering on the right grip panel. There are some very small compression marks. The grips rate in about Fine to Excellent overall condition. The inside of the right grip is stamped "810572".

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is shallow. There is possible fouling at the forcing cone. There is no erosion and the muzzle crown is good.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish. The cylinder has light drag marks and the nickel is not as bright on the grip frame. There are some marks in the finish along the grip frame backstrap. There are some abrasions on the left side of the frame at the top of the trigger guard and around the cylinder stop. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. The hammer and trigger are case colored. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine - Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly both single action and double action. The hammer and trigger are both .265” wide, with the hammer being checkered and the trigger being serrated. The barrel is pinned and tapered. We have not fired this revolver.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The S&W Model 10 with a 2” barrel is a 6 shot snub nosed revolver. This example has the square butt grip frame and is heavy enough to be very controllable in its .38 special chambering. It would make a good carry gun for those not wanting to settle for the five shot capacity of the typical snub nose revolver. Being finished in nickel it’s more rust resistant than a blue revolver. Made in 1966, this was the type of revolver carried by serious city detectives. It is still serious today.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This revolver is not on the California “roster of certified for sale handguns”, and can only be transferred to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. This does not apply to out of state buyers.
