Make: Wards Western Field
Serial Number: NSN
Year of Manufacture: 1950’s to 1960’s ?
Caliber: .22 S-L-LR
Action Type: Tube fed pump action rifle.
Markings: The top of the barrel is stamped “WARDS WESTERN FIELD / MODEL 33-22CAL S-L-LR”.
Barrel Length: 24 inches
Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a front blade and rear leaf and elevator, the sight has what I would call a “micro buckhorn” shape inside it.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are dark brown synthetic simulated wood, I have heard it referred to as “tenite”. There are some scuffs and dings, and a few draglines scattered throughout, but nothing distracting. The LOP measures 13 ½ inches from the trigger to the butt plate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Factory original
Bore Condition: The bore is shiny and the rifling is deep and good. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning around the muzzle and slide contact areas. The area on top of the barrel around the stampings is wearing thin. The screw heads are good and serviceable but do show slight disfiguration. The markings are clearly stamped. Overall, this gun rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this gun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This is a very cool little pump, probably one of the first uses of thermo plastics in the rifle industry. The simulated wood grain is amazing and unique, almost realistic of a slight burl. This was made by Noble Arms to the best of my research, but I could not find very much info so these might be pretty rare. It will shoot short, long and the ever popular long rifle, maximum capacity for short is like 21 rounds. Very unique and fun; this will be a real charm in any collection.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle can be transferred in California.
